Electric Candlelight

Electric Candlelight is a free-form radio program committed to broadcasting a variety of musical genres.

Electric Candlelight draws its name from Pavel Yablochkov’s revolutionary Yablochkov Candle—a symbol of old technology and the enduring power of science—and is inspired by the Kinks’ song Lola, which tells the story of a romantic encounter with a trans person, where characters “drank champagne and danced all night under electric candlelight.” This unique blend reflects a celebration of invention, curiosity, and the many forms of love in a world that’s becoming increasingly intolerant, especially intolerant of love between queer people.

As a child, the radio was my sanctuary, a portal that unlocked a world of imagination—a creative and artistic playground where I could truly be myself, discovering music and the world beyond. Electric Candlelight seeks to recreate that safe space for listeners today—a warm gathering spot for all the freaks, misfits, and dreamers. Here, everyone is welcome to come together under the glow of electric candlelight, sharing stories, music, and connection.

Electric Candlelight broadcasts from 90.9 FM WMPG Gorham, Portland
